At less than one square mile, the Margaret Mitchell neighborhood remains well-known because of its namesake and unique feel. On summer mornings, you will pass friendly neighbors walking their dogs under blue skies down the winding, tree-lined streets. Developed in the 1950s, Margaret Mitchell neighborhood has somehow retained the elusive qualities for which that decade is known. An upscale neighborhood, home styles vary dramatically from newer traditional McMansions to retro modern 60s style ranches. Most homes in the Margaret Mitchell neighborhood are situated on large lots with rolling green lawns and colorful landscaping.

The mostly quiet streets are busy with walkers, joggers, and stroller-pushers nearly any day of the week. Kids congregate in front yards for afternoon games, and everyone seems to know each other. There is a strong neighborhood civic association, which organizes fun social events like holiday cocktail parties for adults and Christmas cookie decorating parties for kids. Kids have a playgroup, and the association also organizes a security patrol, a resident directory, book club, pet directory, and many other community-related activities. The iconic Westminister Schools are a landmark of the neighborhood, in addition to it’s namesake school, Margaret Mitchell School.
