One of the major draws to living in Buckhead is the juxtaposition of big-city conveniences contrasted with the simple pleasures that a small rural community might offer. One of my favorite things to do in Buckhead is visit the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area to enjoy a Buckheadโs best hike. The power of the river, the wildness of nature, and stunning views are all on dramatic display here.
In 1978 Georgiaโs own President Jimmy Carter designated a 48-mile stretch of the River as part of the NPS. The park spans several counties and cities across North Atlanta and includes 15 designated official parking/entry points.
Down a quiet residential Buckhead street in the Whitewater Creek Neighborhood there is an unassuming NPS sign pointing down an old 1-lane road towards the โPalisades โ Whitewater Creekโ area. Itโs easy to miss, and most Buckhead residents have never visited. At the end of this road you will find, without a doubt, the most wild and beautiful section of the entire 48-mile park.
I hope you enjoy the photos of my recent hike below and scroll all the way down to see the homes for sale within walking distance of this area. But mostly I hope you get out and experience Buckheadโs best hike for yourself. To get there use the following address in your GPS (and donโt tell anyone I sent you): 4059 Whitewater Creek Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327.
