At A Glance

Historic Brookhaven has been a popular neighborhood for over 100 years. Developed in 1910, it has evolved today into a bucolic destination. A 10-minute walk will bring you to Phipps and Lenox malls, restaurants, and countless other amenities of the Buckhead business and shopping district off of Peachtree Road.

Historic Brookhaven surrounds the Capital City Club, the oldest private, members-only club in Atlanta. A desire to be close to the club amenities has placed significant upward pressure on land/home prices in the immediate vicinity. By some estimates, nearly half of the residents of Historic Brookhaven are also members of the club, though membership is neither compulsory, nor guaranteed for residents. More recently, the Capital City Club and its surrounding estate homes were added to the National Register of Historic Places, and became officially known as Historic Brookhaven.

Brookhaven dates its founding all the way back to 1810, when John Evins became the very first permanent European settler. In the 1830s, Harris and Solomon Goodwin took ownership of much of the land that forms this neighborhood. The Goodwin home and cemetery on Peachtree Road, near Dresden Drive are still preserved.

Before long, Atlanta residents began constructing summer cottages in what was considered “out in the country.” One of the city’s first planned communities was built on 150 acres. These homes surrounded a new golf course, which was acquired by the downtown Capital City Country Club in the early 1900s.

What We Love

If you are a member of the exclusive Capital City Club, then living just up the street is a huge perk. New dining and retail establishments, many within walking distance, are abundant after a growth spurt during the past few years.

What We Don’t

Being in the Northeast corner of Buckhead makes access to the interstates challenging. You may find yourself in extra mall and business commuter traffic on the way to almost anywhere.

Real Estate

The neighborhood is known for stunning architecture by some of the great Atlanta architects from the early 1900s to today. Lots surrounding the club or with a view across the golf course are a hot commodity. A wide variety of home styles range from older brick ranches starting around $600,000 to sprawling new construction and homes in the Historic District for well over $4,000,000.
