Peaceful, elegant, and timeless. This Neel Reid historic country estate has all the right ingredients for the perfect escape. The Greek Revival farmhouse designed in 1925 by Georgia’s legendary architect, Neel Reid, is a fine example of his esteemed work.  To have such an expansive piece of land with such architectural significance is rare, and only a mere 50 minutes from Buckhead!

The 7000+ square feet of spacious rooms and intricate details are signatures of Neel Reid’s work. Details like heavy original moldings, 12 foot ceilings, French doors throughout, a beautiful library, sunroom, den, butler’s pantry, and large windows framing the sweeping scenery enhance the character and functionality of the design. Outdoors the property’s 100+ acres provides the backdrop for beautiful gardens, lush pastures, a 7 acre lake, a guest house with a bedroom and full bath, a carriage house, and a swimming pool where the kids spent their summers splashing around in the southern heat. The mature trees have called the forest home for decades – all orchestrating the perfect country home.

“The woods came right up to the steps, and there were cows standing on the front porch,” recalls the seller when she purchased the home in 1975.

The previous owner hired Ben Hirsh because this was a very unique property. This was a Buckhead sale that happened to be out of town – we marketed the home directly to buyers in Buckhead and found a buyer in the heart of Buckhead.

How did you find Ben?

“A friend of mine recommended him – she really loved him. I had a couple realty companies that didn’t do a good job, so I called Ben, made an appointment & he came out. We hit it off & from then on it was a wonderful experience. Everything was A plus!”

What was it like working with Ben?

“Wonderful! I felt like I was a member of his family. I think he looked after me as he would his own mother! He took a lot of the pressure off of me & especially finding the buyer – who was absolutely perfect! I like that he didn’t bug me. I’m not the kind of person that likes to stay on top of someone else & I don’t want someone else staying on top of me. I like the way Ben took the bull by the horns and he did everything he needed to do and only called me when it was necessary. But I really did appreciate that – I didn’t want someone calling me everyday with an update.”

He had a book made for our home that we lived in for 42 years… It meant so much to me, my children and our family. That was above and beyond the call.”

1504 Alcovy Trestle Road has been featured in Southern Homes Magazine, Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Rambler by The Georgia Trust, Georgia Trend, including as a historic stop on Convington and Oxford’s “The Best of the South” home tour. In its 1998 Atlanta Journal-Constitution feature entitled, “Neel Reid-designed house part of architectural history,” author Terry Lockman wrote, “homes designed by the socially connected Reid between 1909 and 1926 in the beaux-arts style were considered a status symbol and retain their timeless classic beauty and cachet.”
