$20 Million Renovations Underway At W Atlanta – Buckhead

Woodbine Legacy Investments has released renderings of the exciting changes that are in store for W Atlanta – Buckhead. Renovations began in May of this year and are slated for completion in late December, just in time for Atlanta to host the Super Bowl LIII. Since the hotel’s inception ten years ago, it has been a hotspot for locals and visitors alike, with its luxury accommodations complimented by Whiskey Blue, a rooftop lounge with amazing views of the city. After its purchase by Woodbine in 2017, the firm began planning ways to spruce up the design and give the hotel fresh life.

“This renovation is definitely more than a makeover—it will reinstate the edgy and artful experience guests expect from the W brand, especially with Buckhead as the backdrop,” explained Dupree Scovell, managing partner and chief investment officer for Woodbine. The top-to-bottom redesign will take cues from the city surrounding it, offering improved form as well as function.

The new layout is a flexible one, aiming to flow smoothly from a calm and comfortable atmosphere during the day to a dynamic after-hours vibe in the evenings. A photo booth in the lobby will showcase guests’ portraits a la Polaroid on a screen nearby, and visitors will enjoy a more thoughtful design in the fitness room which is flanked by sweeping views of the city. The 11,000 square feet of flexible indoor/outdoor meeting and event space will get a refresh in the form of new furnishings, art, paint, carpeting, and lighting.

Guest accommodations which include 286 guest rooms, 4 WOW suites, and one EWOW suite, will be transformed with new wall coverings, carpet, headboards, armoires, 55-inch televisions, beverage bar, and in-room Nespresso machines. Guests can expect to find pops of color throughout, fresh new artwork, and thanks to the removal of window air-conditioning units, there will be room for a work and lounge area with chaise, table, and cocktail cubby.

Whiskey Blue will get new furnishings, flooring, lighting, artwork, landscaping, and wall decor; changes are predicted to be completed in late October. The hotel’s restaurant, Cook Hall, will undergo its own transformation at some point in 2019.

“Our renovated hotel will feature a bold new design that will appeal to our guests, all of whom are drawn to the chic-meets-rebel style of our luxury destination,” said General Manager Robert Woolridge. “This overhaul will ultimately make our address—the hottest address in Buckhead—even hotter.”
