Cranes are in Full Swing at Phipps Plaza

We are excited to see construction resume on the Phipps Plaza development of a new Nobu Hotel/Restauraunt and a flagship Life Time Fitness we first reported on in 2018. Construction was halted in 2020 because of the pandemic, but now the entire site is bustling with activity.

Life Time Fitness

Amy Williams with Life Time Fitness tells me they are planning to open the new facility in late 2022. She also confirmed that, “the Life Time will be approximately 90,000 square feet once completed, and include one floor for Life Time Work, our premier coworking space, and two floors dedicated to our Life Time athletic resort.”

You get a sense of the scale of the Life Time tower in our photos. Even with another floor to build, it looks massive! The food and fitness tower will house the Life Time Fitness complex and a new 46,000 sq ft food hall that includes outdoor event space and over 20 food stalls.

Nobu Hotel and Restaurant

The Nobu Hotel is the most complete part of the expansion so far. The hotel tower is built, including the roof, and it looks to have most of its windows installed. The Nobu Website reports that the hotel and restaurant are expected to open in 2022.

The Nobu Hotel will be a striking facade once the decorative panels are installed to cover the hotel’s parking deck base.
The shell of the adjacent Nobu Restaurant appears to be nearly done, but it doesn’t look like there has been much progress yet on the interior.

Office Tower

Construction has also begun on the 12-story office tower that will round out the expansion. Randall Jackson with Simon Properties told me that although the project is back in “full swing”, they do not have a clear timeline for when the project will be complete. I will be checking in with Randall in a few weeks for an update.
